Loloata, PNG

26-30 November 2026

Discover the spectacular underwater world at Loloata, just off Port Moresby – pristine reefs, dramatic drop offs, WWII wrecks and incredible macro life and marine diversity. November is the best time of the year to dive in Loloata with the calm seas and the clearest water of the year. Every dive brings the promise of something extraordinary. Above water unwind in tropical island paradise and soak up the sunsets!

Loloata Island Resort is situated off the coast of Port Moresby, just a direct 90 minutes flight from Cairns, with a 20 minutes’ drive from Port Moresby and a short ferry ride across to its own island in Bootless Bay.

The Diving

Loloata offers world-class scuba diving and the bay is protected by an offshore barrier reef, so most sites are 10 to 30 minutes away by boat and home to a mix of reefs, walls and bommies. Loloata has been a dive destination for decades, with a resort operating here for almost 40 years before the island was redeveloped. Today, the local team knows these sites inside and out, with every dive site named and moored.

Reefs and Bommies
Isolated coral heads rising off white sand, with hard coral gardens, seawhips, gorgonian fans and resident reef fish. See Suzies Bommie, North Patch and Lilians Patch!

Wrecks
Two purpose-scuttled ships and an intact WWII bomber, all shallow enough for long bottom times and heavily grown over with soft coral and tubastraea.

Muck and Macro
Dive Lion Island and the resort jetty for the chance to see frogfish, rhinopias, harlequin ghost pipefish and pygmy seahorses – Loloata has a real reputation for rhinopias!

Walls and passages
Nadine’s Passage, The Big Drop and The End Bommie drop into deeper water, with bigger fans, passing pelagics, reef sharks, eels, sea snakes and eagle rays.
