Bougainville Reef sits atop the remains of an ancient volcano about 115 nautical miles northeast of Cairns surrounded by 800m deep ocean. It is rarely visited and considered unspoiled. You can expect fantastic visibility, big sheer walls sprouting gorgonian fans and a healthy population of large pelagics cruising by, there are also some remains of a shipwreck, the MV Antonia Tarabocchia on the reef.
