We invite you to attend our club meeting on Wednesday the 24th of February at 7:00pm at the Junior Eisteddfod Association Hall, 67 Greenslopes Street, Edge Hill. There will be a BBQ, drinks, our usual club business including news on upcoming club events.

Grayson our guest speaker coordinator has also organised a couple of very interesting guest speakers this month!

Emily O’Hara
Emily is a PhD student at JCU and she is coming in to talk to us about Irukandji jellyfish and jellyfish in general.

Emily is continuing her ecology and venom interests in cnidarians by working with jellyfish polyps. Originally from the UK, Emily hopes her research can help with the medical field by working out the jellyfish’s ecology and venom.

Casey Schmidt
Casey is also a PhD student at JCU and her area of study is cone shells and coral toxins. Casey is going to talk about cone shells and corals.

BBQ Changes

We are planning to move the food and drink service back on to tables outside. We will still need to have committee members serving the food and drinks for the time being. The COVID register will also be outside.

COVID Safe

Even though we are lucky with COVID in Cairns, we as a club we are still required to comply with the COVID Safe Plan we have developed for our club meetings.

• DO NOT attend the meeting if you are are unwell, have any possible symptoms of COVID-19, suspect you may have been infected with COVID-19, have had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19, or been advised by health authorities to self-isolate
• Sign in to the COVID register and use hand sanitiser on entry
• Follow 1.5m social distancing during the meeting and while queuing, following markings where provided

Please work with us to follow these guidelines. We all need to follow the COVID plan to keep everyone safer and to protect the club and the committee from the liability of contravening public health direction.
